Peter B. Lewis
Board President
Beginning with broadcast radio and television, Peter is celebrating 40 years in aural and visual communications industries. He founded AUDISEE/Sound in 1988 to produce sound environments for exhibitions and large public spaces. As creative consultant to NIKE, he designed the Sound of Nike Town retail stores and Nike Parks at both the Olympics and World Cup and dozens of specialty presentation programs.

Peter is a longtime member of AFTRA, a published author of non-fiction and Executive Director of the CarTours Foundation, a non-profit organization which produces educational and interpretive audio tours for National Parks and Historic Byways.

CarTours was awarded a contract by the Army Corps of Engineers to produce a Driving Tour for the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial.

     

Darrell E .Lewis
Treasurer

Over 35 years experience working for three Federal land management agencies.  Served over 20 years as Chief, Natural Resources Management Branch in the Headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. National Society for Park Resources member. Served as member of NSPR board for two terms and as President for one term.

Recipient of the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Corps of Engineers, the William Penn Mott, Jr. Award for Meritorious Service from the National Society for Parks and Recreation, the Recreation Legends Award from the American Recreation Coalition, National Recreation Resource Leadership Award from the National Association of Recreation Resource Planners and the Legends of Parks and Recreation Program designation by The American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration.

Undergraduate (Washington State University) and masters degrees (The University of Michigan) in natural resources.

     
Debby Chenoweth
Membership

2002 - Jan 2007 Chief of Operations, GS-15, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District.

Professional public administrator with 34 years experience balancing the needs and desires of the public with the authorities and resources available to meet those demands. Managed public facilities and lands for multiple purposes to optimize use while assuring sustainability for the future.

Education: B.S. Natural Resources Management, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI

Awards: Silver Order of the de Fleury Medal; Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal; Meritorious Civilian Service Award; 4 Commander Awards, Woman of the Year, Ohio River Division; Women's Role Model Award for DOD.

Founder and Life member National Association for Interpretation; past Board Member for National Society for Parks and Recreation.

 
     
John Luzader
Advisor
Born in Virginia, Mr. Luzader has been exposed to professional history all of his life.

An instructor, educator and interpretive presenter in national, state and local parks and historic sites, colleges and private organizations, winner of numerous master interpreter awards and author of over 200 published professional papers in national and international newsletters, magazines and professional source books with a focus on military history.

John is a member of numerous historical associations and currently a member of NAI where he was Past Chair and is currently Vice Chair of the Cultural Interpretation and Living History Section.

John also currently serves on or is a consultant for numerous non-profit boards.

 
     
David Wahus
Director
Dave Wahus retired after 34 years of service from the Corps of Engineers in June 2000, where he held the position of Chief of Recreation Programs. He spent ten years in the Army as an Engineer Officer and is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He served as a Senior Program Analyst on the staff of the President's Commission on National Recreation Lakes.

Dave is a 1999 recipient of the William Pen Mott, Jr. Award of Excellence.

He holds degrees from North Dakota State University in Agricultural Education (BS) and from the University of Missouri in Engineering Management (BS).

Dave works as a consultant in meeting planning, design, facilitation, and the preparation of meeting proceedings. He has worked with stained glass since 1990 and owns and operates a stained glass studio in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. He enjoys fly fishing in his spare time.

     
Rich Deline
Director
Founder and key principal of Executive Productions-Seattle (EPS), a multimedia production company.

Graduated in Forestry Engineering with a minor in Civil/Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. A member and major sponsor of NAI and numerous historical societies with a focus on cultural history. Rich is also a founding board member of the Partnership for the National Trails System.

Rich has worked as a contractor and consultant for the Corps nationwide for over 20 years helping upgrade visitor center facilities. He has prepared command briefings for many Seattle District Commanders. Rich has an intimate working knowledge of the Corps from an "outsider" perspective.

EPS was contracted by the Corps to produce the official film for the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial and Rich was the official photographer and filmmaker for Corps sponsored Bicentennial Signature events.

     

Dan Troglin
Director

Between his freshman and sophomore years at Washington State University , when he was majoring in pre-med, Dan worked at Mt. Rainier National Park . He came away with two passions that summer: mountaineering and being a park ranger. Upon his return to college in the fall, he shed his white lab coat in favor of a ranger uniform. He retired 35 years later from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as Chief of the Natural Resource Management Branch, Portland District. During his career, he served on numerous committees and was an instructor in the Corps Visitor Assistance Course. In addition, he was a Police Reserve Officer for the City of Portland, Oregon for 15 years, eventually earning the rank of Commander of the 125-person unit.

Since his retirement in 2007, Dan has been crossing items off his “bucket” list: going on safari in Tanzania , building a church in Mexico , tandem skydiving, visiting his son in South Korea , and participating in a spring cattle drive (branding, sorting and moving the herd) at a ranch near Sisters, Oregon .

Professional Awards and Achievements: Portland Police Bureau - Distinguished Service Medal, Tailiaferro Award, and Coulter Award; Corps of Engineers - twice was Portland District's nominee for Federal Employee of the Year in the Portland Metropolitan Area, Commanders Award and Medal, Sustained Superior Achievement Award and Medal, and 2003 Chief of Engineers Natural Resource Management Employee of the Year Award.

     

Marilyn Jones
Secretary

Ms. Marilyn Jones began her tenure as the Operations Project Manager of Tioga-Hammond and Cowanesque Lakes Project on February 7, 2005. As the Operations Project Manager, Ms. Jones is responsible for the planning, budgeting, developing and execution of the project's $4 million plus recreation, resource and operations and maintenance programs budget for a project with three major recreation areas, three dams, a levee system and a mitigation area.

Before accepting this assignment, Ms. Jones served as the Lake Manager of Table Rock Lake from August 1999 to February 6, 2005. During her tenure at Table Rock Lake , she completed a one year developmental assignment as Operations Project Manager for Beaver Lake Project near Rogers , Arkansas . She also completed nine years of service as the Lake Manager of Cooper Dam and Jim Chapman Lake , near Cooper and Sulphur Springs , Texas . As Lake Manager in these locations, she was responsible for $1 million to $4.5 million recreation, resource and operation and maintenance program budgets, recreation programs which served from 200,000 to 6 million visitors each year. Previous to her tenure in northeast Texas , Ms. Jones developed her knowledge and skills as a Park Ranger on Lavon Lake , from 1982 to 1990. She began her full-time federal career in 1980 with the Tulsa District on Tenkiller Lake , near Gore, Oklahoma .

A Texas native, Ms. Jones graduated in 1980 from University of the Ozarks in Clarksville , Arkansas , with a bachelor's degree in biology. Jones has received numerous awards including the 2003 Little Rock District Woman of the Year; the 2002 Civilian Hero of the Regiment; several General Officer and District Commander's coins for outstanding service and performance; Commander's Civilian Service Award, Fort Worth District, 1999; and numerous Official Commendations for outstanding performance from 1984 to 2007. She has been a member of National Society for Park Resources since 1989 and has served on the board of directors and executive board the last seven years. She is currently serving as Chair of the Natural Resources Career Development Steering Committee for the US Army Corps of Engineers. She is a graduate of the Emerging Leaders Program of Little Rock District and Southwestern Division and the Command Council Liaison Team of 2003 and was privileged to have attended 3 Senior Leaders/Emerging Leaders Conferences in her tenure. In 2009, Ms. Jones proudly began serving as secretary for the Corps Natural Resources Education Foundation.

     
Chris Gallagher
Corps Liaison to the Board

Chris joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1986 being hired to serve as the Education Coordinator for the Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito , CA . The Bay Model Visitor Center (BMVC) is a regional visitor for the Corps and serves over 150,000 visitors a year. The Bay Model is a three-dimensional hydraulic model of San Francisco Bay and Delta areas capable of simulating tides and currents. The Model is over 1.5 acres in size and represents an area from the Pacific Ocean to Sacramento and Stockton , including: the San Francisco , San Pablo and Suisun Bays and a portion of the Sacramento - San Joaquin Delta. The BMVC is a fully accessible educational center which makes possible the viewing of a scientific tool: a working hydraulic model of the San Francisco Bay and San Joaquin Delta system.

During her time as Education Coordinator Chris spent time representing the Bay Model and the Corps at many off-site events and school presentations in addition to coordinating the school groups that visit the model. 60% of the visitation to the Bay Model is school children throughout the Bay Area. In addition the Bay Model hosts a variety of special events throughout the year.

In 1991 Chris was promoted to serve as Assistant Manager to the Bay Model and in 2001 was promoted as Manager. In her capacity of manager Chris is responsible for working with the community and the greater Bay Area to form partnerships and also work on mission related issues. Chris also serves as the national Chairman for the Corps of Engineers Partnership Advisory Team.

Prior to joining the Corps Chris worked for the National Park Service at Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) in the Marin Headlands performing a resource management and interpretation duties. She also spent a short time on Alcatraz working as a ranger. She then worked for the US Forest Service in their Regional Information and Personnel Offices.

Chris holds a degree in Forestry from Unity College in Maine and a B.A. degree in Environmental Education from Dominican University in San Rafael , CA .

Outside of work Chris serves on several non-profit boards in her community. She has served or is currently serving on the American Red Cross, YMCA, Salvation Army, Dominican University , Marin Literacy and United Way boards. She also volunteers for Sunny Hills Services, Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) for the City of Sausalito , Marin Humane Society and served as President of the Rotary Club of Sausalito 2007-09.

     

Kenneth Dial
Director

Ken Dial retired in January 2009 after serving 36 years with the Corps of Engineers. He worked in the Little Rock, Kansas City and Savannah Districts as a Park Ranger, Outdoor Recreation Planner, and Operation Project Manager. The last 16 years of his career he served as the Operation Project Manager for the J. Strom Thurmond Lake and Power Plant in the Savannah District.

Ken is a three time recipient of Savannah District's highest civilian award, the Charles F. Trainor Award. He also received the Commander's Award in Savannah District and numerous other awards throughout his career for his service on national and regional committees.

He received a BS degree from Arkansas Tech University in 1975 in Parks and Recreation Administration.

During his career he was a registered professional with the National Recreation and Parks Association and he was a member of the National Society of Parks and Recreation. Ken was also a founding member of the Central Savannah River Area Government Executives Association.

Ken works as one of the managing partners of Dial-Stalnaker Real Estate Investments LLC. He continues to enjoy all sports and outdoor recreation activities. He still attempts to play golf and tennis. He joined the Corps Foundation to continue to promote public awareness and public support of the Corps of Engineers Natural Resource and Park and Recreation Missions.
